#because dean is sam’s mary #and he would never throw him away for his father’s personal crusade #the one in which he was dragged into from infancy #and should anything compromise dean’s existence Sam wouldn’t let them take another breath #that includes dear old dad and his demon hunting #its funny when you think about it. people say this show is about family #but the boys never went mad laying down their lives to save john #because that sort of madness and obsession is something only for each other #and fuck #it isn’t just about the fact that they are family #it’s the fact that nothing else matters half as much  #even family

Hell yes, all of this. There’s family and then there’s each other. What they have is on another plane entirely.

Yep, think of all the people they’ve called family — John, Bobby, Cas, Kevin — it’s not about family, not between the two of them. It’s something else. Some call it codependent, but someone used the term entwined. I think that’s a more apt term.

So do I. They are very much entwined, or enmeshed in psych terminology. Co-dependent implies that they are enabling each other in some sort of destructive behavior. This isn’t the case. They call each other on their shit, neither of them carries the whole load, and they are not dependent upon each other because either of them is incapable or unwilling to do his share. In fact, I would argue that they are healthier when they are together in almost every way. I know it has come to have an almost positive connotation on our corner of the fandom but co-dependent is the wrong word. If Sam had continued drinking demon blood and Dean had enabled him to do that and taken care of him and cleaned up all his messes that resulted from the addiction and allowed him to continue because he needed Sam that bad, if Sam had allowed that and clung to Dean to support his addiction, that would be co-dependent. I have issues with using the term for people who can function without each other but doing so is unbearable because of love. I am continually amazed at the general inability to tell the difference.

I agree with samdeangirl84 completely. Well said.
